Fran White, a member of the Fond du Lac Band of Lake Superior Chippewa, was once told her military service didn’t count. She’d never seen combat. But from 1969-71, her work as an Army clerk ensured that the families of combat soldiers were taken care of.

Why did John Hill join the Marines? He’d dropped out of school and had an usher job. He wanted something better. So he flew off to boot camp in September 1961.

Davalance DePoe part 1

Davalance DePoe, a member of the Fond du Lac Band of Lake Superior Chippewa, always wanted to jump from an airplane. He got his chance in infantry and jump school to become a member of the Army’s 82nd Airborne.

With the 82nd Airborne, Davalance DePoe participated in the 2003 invasion of Iraq. His unit secured three bridges during the Battle of Samawah.

Dennis Krivinchuk part 1

Dennis Krivinchuk, a member of the Fond du Lac Band of Lake Superior Chippewa, had already flunked his military physical three times when he was drafted. He talks about being part of an artillery unit in Vietnam.
